have a student working as an intern?
A: Sponsored Internships: the cost
is $1,200 for undergraduate students and $1,600 for graduate
students.

company?
A: Sponsored Internships: students
will work for 120 hours.
Direct Internships:
the length of the internship is determined by the company.
Q: When can I send my internship job description?
A: Any time. We have hundreds of students eager to gain professional
experience. However, the response is greater at the beginning
of each semester.
Q: How soon can I have a student working
for the company?
A: In average it takes between 1 and 2 weeks, depending on the
skills and requirements needed.
Q: Who will choose the intern?
A: The company selects the student that will fill the internship
position.
Q: Are the interns insured?
A: Only students participating in Sponsored Internships
are fully insured through the SDSU Research Foundation.
Q: Is the internship placement fee tax
deductible?
A: Yes, the contribution is tax deductible and the company will
be provided with a copy of the SDSU Research Foundation W-9 form

to the internship. However, if the student fails to finish the
120 hours required the stipend is forfeited and offered to the
new student taking the position.
Direct Internships:
in all Direct Internships the company handles all the issues related
to the internship independently from our office.
Q: Can a company switch
from Direct Internship to Sponsored Internship?
Yes. The student and the company must agree.
Q: Can a company offer
an internship to an international student?
Yes. International students are interested in obtaining working
experience in their field of study before returning to their home
country. The company can offer either a Sponsored Internship
or Direct Internship to international students.
F1 regulations allow international students the opportunity to
obtain work experience in their field by providing an employment
authorization option known as practical training and the student
is responsible for submitting the proper documentation to the
International Student Center.
Unpaid volunteer work is not considered practical training, and
does not require work authorization.
